What Happened to Charles? Crater Lake National Park

Charles “Chuck” McCullar, a 19-year-old photographer, disappeared in January 1975 while traveling alone through Crater Lake National Park. He was last seen after being dropped off near the park entrance during severe winter conditions, carrying limited camping gear. Despite extensive searches, no trace of him was found until October 1976, when hikers discovered his backpack, personal items, and scattered skeletal remains near Bybee Creek. Investigators found no evidence of foul play and concluded that McCullar most likely died from exposure after becoming lost or stranded in the deep snow - but theories endure.
